Printing
PP&B provides three central print servers for the entire Fritz Haber Institute (FHI) to enable printing within the network.
Important Network Access Note: Access to the print servers is only possible from within the institute network (wired LAN, VPN, or the encrypted FHI Wi-Fi eduroam). Access from the FHI guest network will not work!
Important Notes on Buying a Printer
Here is some information beforehand to ensure that everything goes smoothly when purchasing a printer.
We are happy to help you select a suitable printer model. Only printers approved by us will work smoothly with the FHI CUPS (Common Unix Printing System). A client's print job is sent to a scheduler, which converts the data to be printed into the portable PostScript format using a filter system. This data is finally sent to a backend, which prints it on the corresponding printer.
Important requirements:
- The printer must support PostScript 3 (usually specified in the manufacturer's description).
- At least one official PPD file must be available for the selected printer model.
